In this destination (Senegal), Alizeoo plans run on the networks of local partner operators: Orange, Free, Expresso. With automatic network selection, your phone connects to whichever network is available; you can also choose the operator manually in your settings. The exact list of networks for each plan is shown on its page before you buy.

Activation : Automatic on arrival. You can install the eSIM before departure without using any data.

4G and 5G

Mobile networks in the country: 4G / 4G+. Actual speeds vary with location, time of day and how busy the network is: we do not advertise a guaranteed speed.

eSIM, local SIM card or roaming?

Three ways to get online when you arrive. None of them is the best choice every time: it all depends on how long you are staying and what you need.

Alizeoo data eSIM

  • Installed before you leave, with no shop visit and no card to insert
  • Your usual SIM stays in place for calls and texts
  • Price including VAT known in advance, with no activation fee
  • Data only: no local number
  • You need a compatible, unlocked phone

Local SIM card

  • A local number to make calls and receive texts while you are there
  • Often good value for a long stay
  • Bought on arrival, sometimes with ID required
  • You have to remove or disable your usual SIM if your phone is not dual SIM
  • Offers and terms in the local language

Roaming with your operator

  • Nothing to install: you keep your number
  • Handy for very occasional use
  • Can be expensive outside the zones included in your plan
  • Rates and allowances to check with your operator before you travel

Detailed comparison: eSIM, local SIM card or roaming.

Install your eSIM in 3 steps

  1. Choose a plan and pay: the QR code and installation link arrive by email and in your account.
  2. Before you leave, on Wi-Fi: scan the QR code or tap “Install in one tap”. Name the line Alizeoo.
  3. When you arrive: choose Alizeoo for mobile data and turn on data roaming for that line.

You need a phone that supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. As a guide: iPhone XS, XR and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later. Most iPhones sold in mainland China do not have eSIM: check your model.

Staying connected: Senegal

Mobile payments

Mobile payment services such as Wave or Orange Money are widely used. They are tied to a local phone number: a data eSIM is not enough to open an account.

Coverage outside Dakar

Coverage is good in Dakar and the large towns. In some rural areas and in Casamance, the signal can be weaker: download offline maps.

Messaging apps

WhatsApp is very widely used to keep in touch with accommodation, drivers and guides: it works over the eSIM's data.

Frequently asked questions: eSIM, Senegal

Senegal: which networks does the Alizeoo eSIM use?

For this destination (Senegal), plans use the following partner operators: Orange, Free, Expresso. The exact network for each plan is shown on its page before you buy.

Senegal: can I install the eSIM before I travel?

Yes, and we recommend it: install it at home on Wi-Fi, then activate it when you arrive (mobile data on Alizeoo, data roaming turned on). The plan's validity period generally starts the first time you connect in the covered country; the plan's page gives the details.

Senegal: will I get a phone number?

No. Alizeoo provides mobile data, with no phone number and no standard calls. Internet calling apps (WhatsApp, FaceTime, Messenger and so on) work over data, and your usual SIM can stay active to receive calls and texts.

Can I use Wave or Orange Money with the eSIM?

No. These services require a local phone number. The Alizeoo eSIM only provides mobile data; you can, however, use apps that work over the internet.
